It is always a challenge to create a car sculpted cake, mostly because of the natural limitations of a material that is the cake from which it should be molded. It is somewhat easy when modelling an object that can be observed around. But when modelling an object, a work of technological art such as this beautiful super car Aston Martin One 77 it takes a lot of 3D imagination to bring it to life.

As I make cakes I do realize that no matter how close to the real stuff you get - it's still a cake and when something looks like a cake it's perfectly fine with me. I don't really believe that cakes need to be exact replicas of the real life objects. But in this case, I think I came pretty close. Ready to wear....no, wait - ready to eat!

Cars are usually not all that easy to make. They require plenty of details and they need to be finished to look as smooth as possible. In following photos you can see how I did it.

1. It all starts with the research. Something like Computer Aided Cake Design Process or in short - CACDP :-) which includes images research and edit.

2. Or maybe design based on small scale model of the vehicle, such as this beautiful Lambo toy.

3. I scaled images to the actual required size of my cake (11 in x 3 in) and used cutouts as a template for carving the cake. This enables me to achieve as realistic representation of an object as possible. It is important to remember that it is a cake after all and the material used limits the amount of details achievable. Technical enough?

Fun doggie wedding cake for a super cute, happy couple! They both like kites, hence the doggies holding one. The groom even designed their own wedding invitations - he sketched a guy and a girl holding a kite.

They love dogs too. They both have their imaginary dogs - not the real ones yet. That is very sweet - a French Bulldog named Mortimer and a Yorkie whose name is Poopameyer. That is how those two cute dogs ended up on their wedding cake holding a kite!

Suitcases Mini Cakes

The bride is a world traveller and her bridal shower was all about travel. That's why she wanted to give away mini cakes in a shape of suitcases. I've made 165 mini cakes. This was a huge order and it took a lot of time to complete the order. Three people worked full speed for 48 hours, plus the prep work beforehand. No sleep, no break, a little bit of food. In the morning before the delivery we had to bring in help to package and tie them to be able to make it on time.

This is me at the venue, tired and exhausted. The job is done! I don't think people can even imagine what it takes to be a cake designer. And for sure they do not realize how much work, effort and skill goes into their cakes...

Has anybody ever done this before? I don't know, but the idea is great and the result even better. Race Cars Mini Cakes were packed in 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 plastic boxes and tied with the black ribbon. Every Race Car Mini Cake is carved in a cake and covered with fondant - then decorated with two white strips just like real race cars.

Or in this particular case it's Yo Ho Ho and a Chocolate Pirate Ship Cake for a five year old Pirate Captain Carson.

The symbol - a white skull in profile wearing a kerchief and an earing above a saltire of two white crossed bones on a black field (pirate flag) belonged to the actual Indian Ocean pirate captain Henry Every, nicknamed The Arch Pirate.
